Starting in 1995 ,under the initiative of the Baptist Church, 3 members had a vision. (The membership is now 17 to date).
The vision was to help unemployed widowed women to make some income through self employment. In so doing, women make a difference in their lives and their surrounding area. Their ages range from 25-62 years old.
Among the group,9 members attend daily activities at the centre and the rest of the members, who live far from the centre, make their items at their homes and bring them to the centre.
The activities carried on by this group is mainly hand craft work. Women sell their work in different areas such as curio shops.
Mamasuzy.net was given a doll as a gift. The doll still remains magical, why? You don't believe me they are magical? I can tell you story upon story, though I will tell you the first one.
When I wanted to launch the mamasuzy.net name, the products and the concept I invited interested friends over for a big party.
The first guest arrived (Josie)
and walked immediately to the colourful display of MDoli. Every individual MDoli
is given a Tanzanian name. She was drawn to the brightly dressed Mama MDoli,
looked at her name……………..it was Mama Josie! SOLD. We all commented how uncanny
it was and the night turned into an absolute HIT!!!!
Thanks Josie.
It will be an absolute delight to take to these women a picture I took of two young girls who saw MDoli at the Parap Market in Darwin ,saved their pocket money and came back and bought two. It was a precious moment shared.
Soon to be available online
Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.
